I’m Gary Fisher, an artist based in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware. I create primarily in my studio and surrounding gardens. Before moving my studio to Rehoboth, I had a studio on 14th St Washington, DC. In DC. I found painting, my passion, in mid life after a career as a natural resource and environmental attorney. I was an active participant in the local art scene, a founding member of the Mid-City Artists Group, served as the Managing Art Director for the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID), and am now an active member of the Rehoboth Art League. I am an oil painter and my artwork ranges from the textural abstract landscape work that has been the focus of my major recent work, to brilliantly colored still life, figurative paintings and recently an interest small plein-air paintings inspired from the poppy fields of Provence and my own beautiful gardens.
My art is an expression of the beauty I see all around me, particularly the coastal environment with its beautiful sunrises and sunsets reflecting off the wetlands and bays of Delaware, the gardens around my studio, or the amazing places I travel on my active biking, hiking and painting trips. My paintings reflect my highly individual vision of the scenery or subject matter that surrounds me. Color dominates my vibrant surfaces as the play of light is expressed in applications of intense, and sometimes surprising hues. Paint strokes are infused with an exuberant energy. The results are dream-like canvases that evoke a sense of playfulness and spontaneity intended to encourage the observer to a place of your own inner reflections. The canvases take on a life of their own, the results always fresh, unique and exciting.
